Qian Hongyan proves that not having a pair of legs won’t stop her from chasing her dreams.

After an unfortunate accident, Qian lost both of her legs at the age of 4. Due to poverty, her family couldn’t buy the prosthetic legs she needs. To help her move around, her grandfather cut an old basketball in half and attached it to what remains of her lower body. She uses wooden slippers, holding it while she “walks” around.

When her condition gained national attention, help poured in from all over the world, finally giving her prosthetic legs. The donations also helped her through primary education.

Since her family can no longer support her education, Qian tried her hand at a Paralympics. At first, she couldn’t imagine being able to float. Now, she has finally graduated and represents the country in international Paralympics competitions, as part of the swimming team.
