The bill to make it illegal for children to be left inside running vehicles is being rushed to pass it’s third and final reading in congress.

House Bill 6570 states that its purpose is to avoid accidents after reports of young children dying due to being left inside running vehicles by their parents.

The latest incident was the death of an 8 year old child named Janna Jacobe. The young girl was searched for by her parents for over 12 hours only to find her sleeping inside their vehicle already lifeless. This happened in January.

Under the new law, all children who will be left inside vehicles must be accompanied by guardians who are at least 18 years old.

Everyone who will violate this law will be subject to a fine beginning at P5,000 for the first offense, P50,000 for the second offense and confiscation of driver’s license on the third.

Also included in the bill is an awareness campaign to be conducted by the Land Transportation Office along with the Council for the Welfare of Children.
